In the dark days of March 2020, while huddled in our homes and wondering what was next, we asked ourselves: how can we help? With live productions, both professional and educational, at a stand-still (along with seemingly everything else in the world), we knew that there had to be something we at RMS could do to help.
Introducing Rehearsal Live Share (RLS). RLS allows you to connect directly through our software platforms (launching initially with RMS Coach in late May). You'll be able to share musical content through the software as always and then place a video call through the application for remote rehearsal. RLS will be included free with your existing software license or RMS Creator subscription for the time being.

The New York Times recently gave a rave review to the Gateway Playhouse's production of CATS. This production uses Sinfonia - and though the review does not mention us specifically, we know we had a big hand in producing the sound that led to this quote: "A six-member orchestra led by Jeffrey Buchsbaum delivers the score with considerable resonance."
We measure success in part by our transparency. When a critic for one of the top newspapers for theatrical reviews in the country is not aware of any technological enhancement and reacts only to the great music he hears, we know we're doing our job.

We recently conducted an online survey of past OrchExtra customers. OrchExtra is the version of our Sinfonia instrument available through Music Theatre International (MTI). It has been around for about six years now, and we were curious to get a sense of what people who used it thought about it.
We sent out email questionaires to approximately 300 former customers asking the following questions:
Here are a few representative quotes:
We were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response we got. Many people were incredibly effusive in expressing how much they loved OrchExtra. The product is an extraordinary benefit to High School Theater! What a joy it was for our students to have the thrill of being accompanied by a full orchestra. Members of our small school orchestra learned so much by having the experience of accompanying a live performance! - Maggie Ward, Notre Dame Prep School, Towson, MD
We were most impressed with your OrchEXTRA. The musicians, orchestra conductor, cast members and audience members all sang its praises. - Jane Long, Southeast Alabama Community Theatre, Dothan, AL
We are and will always be HUGE supporters of OrchExtra...we wish that we had the system for every show. I make sure that I share my positive experiences with everyone I know involved in theatre. - Kathy Chitwood, Eastlight Theatre, East Peoria, IL
I LOVE using OrchExtra for this show. I produced a summer high school musical for the first time at our (college) facility, and everyone was WOWed. Even my conductor, who is degreed from Johns Hopkins and the local youth symphony conductor agreed that it was not too bad. - Beth Harvey, FCCJ Wilson Center for the Arts, Jacksonville, FL
IT WAS GREAT!!!!!!!!!! - Wendy Czerwonka, West Plains High School, West Plains, MO
In all 95% of the respondents had very favorable comments and said they hoped to use OrchExtra® again. (Most suggestions related to new titles they wanted to see developed.) We are thrilled by this response and honored that we can help producers and educators put on more musicals. We hope to build on this base of customer support with InstrumentalEase (our new Sinfonia® product for The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization), as well as other new products we have in the pipeline.

From time to time, we get requests from people asking for Sinfonia audio samples. We've resisted these requests in the past because we felt people who experience Sinfonia only through an mp3 or other audio file get the wrong idea about it. They hear a recording and think that that is exactly what Sinfonia is: a recording. In actuality, what defines and distinguishes Sinfonia is not so much its sound (although we're proud of that too), but its unique ability to be performed as a live instrument and integrate with an ensemble.
We still believe that the best way to get a real sense of our new instrument is to see it in action. Therefore, we always try to get those who are interested either to come to our studios for a demo, or to attend a rehearsal or performance of a show that is using it.
Nevertheless, the reques keep coming, and we recognize that some people still really want to download a quick example. Our challenge has been to find a way to provide something that demonstrates what we think is most beneficial about Sinfonia.
The audio sample below is our attempt to do just that. What you will hear is a short excerpt from the Overture to Bizet's CARMEN. The scenario imagines a very small production of the classic opera performed by a nine piece ensemble: eight acoustic instruments plus Sinfonia. In this live recording, the eight acoustic musicians first play the famous CARMEN theme by themselves. They then immediately repeat the theme, but this time joined by the Sinfonia. The point of the contrast – a small band playing without and then with Sinfonia - is to demonstrate how well Sinfonia helps eight instruments sound like fifty.
